Shamrocks fall behind early in loss to Woodstock

WOODSTOCK – The Hespeler Shamrocks yielded the first four goals of the game as they were downed 5-1 by the Woodstock Navy Vets in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Friday night at the Woodstock District Community Complex.

Woodstock led 2-0 at the end of the first period and 4-0 after the second.

Andrew Fulton scored an unassisted power-play goal in the third period for Hespeler.

Caden Bower had a pair of goals for Woodstock while Nolan Brett, Jonah Jackstreit and Gabe Constantini added single goals. Kyle Baker and Drew Woods each had two assists while Ty Durston, Jackstreit, Lakin Hendry, Mack Easter and Josh King each had one.

Woodstock outshot Hespeler 49-29 including a 20-5 advantage in the second period. Both teams netted a power play goal, Hespeler on three power plays and Woodstock on four.

Joseph Clark had 44 saves in net for Hespeler while Keaghan Brett had 28 for Woodstock.

The Shamrocks (5-12-1-0) and Norwich Merchants (4-9-2-1) are tied for fifth in the Doherty Division while Woodstock is third at 12-2-2-0, a point behind the leading tied duo of Wellesley Applejacks (13-2-1-0) and Tavistock Braves (13-3-1-0).

Hespeler is to host Norwich at the Hespeler Memorial Arena Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
