Shamrocks fall to New Hamburg on second-period goals
CAMBRIDGE – The Hespeler Shamrocks yielded a pair of goals 10 minutes apart in the second period as they dropped their Provincial Junior Hockey League home opener 2-0 to the New Hamburg Firebirds Wednesday at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
Owen Bruder on a power play and Cole Stannix scored the game’s goals while assists were awarded to Jake Thompson, Cedrik Roth, Antonio Pasqualino and Angelo Duscio.

The Firebirds outshot the Shamrocks 33-25 and went 1-for-3 on their power play while Hespeler was scoreless on four power plays.
Brandon Snider took the loss in net for the Shamrocks. He had 31 saves while Griffen Murphy turned aside 25 shots to get the shutout for New Hamburg.
The result leaves the Shamrocks at 1-1-0-0 and New Hamburg at 2-0-0-0.
The Shamrocks have a pair of games on the holiday weekend as they’re to play the Norwich Merchants (0-2-0-0) at the NOR-DEL Arena Friday at 8 p.m. and host the Wellesley Applejacks (2-0-0-0) Sunday at 3 p.m.
