Shamrocks finish regular season with loss to Port Dover

PORT DOVER – The Hespeler Shamrocks completed their Provincial Junior Hockey League regular season with an 8-1 loss to the Port Dover Sailors in a game that meant nothing to the Bloomfield Division final standings.

The game was tied after the Shamrocks scored a power-play goal early in the first period, but Port Dover responded with seven unanswered goals for the victory.

The Sailors led 3-1 at the end of the first period and they scored the lone goal of the second.

Dylan Beitz scored the goal for Hespeler while assists on the goal went to Ryan Frost and Joseph Tabet.

Isaac MacAulay, Peyton Adams-Matthews and George Kapralos connected for two goals apiece for Port Dover while single goals were added by Nigel Dantas and Ashton Mikasko. Jordan Land had three assists while Sam Restivo had two and Tyler Heisey, Kapralos, MacAulay, Adams-Matthews, Lynden Lemoire, Matt Scanlin and Connor Hisaw had one each.

Port Dover outshot the Shamrocks 46-42 and went 1-for-6 on its power play while Hespeler went 1-for-9.

Connor Pickard took the loss in net for Hespeler. He had 38 saves while A.J. Scala had 41 saves in the win for Port Dover.

The Shamrocks finish eighth in the Bloomfield Division at 7-32-1-2 while Port Dover finishes sixth at 13-24-2-3. Those finishes were known prior to the game.

The Shamrocks are to play the Glanbrook Rangers in the best-of-seven divisional quarter-finals. Glanbrook swept all six regular-season games between the two teams, outscoring the Shamrocks 39-4 in the process.

The series is to start Wednesday at Glanbrook. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Game 2 is scheduled to be played Saturday at the Hespeler Memorial Arena starting at 8:30 p.m.
