Shamrocks give up quick goals in first in loss to Hagersville
HAGERSVILLE – The Hespeler Shamrocks yielded a pair of goals 11 seconds apart late in the first period as they suffered a 5-3 loss to the Hagersville Hawks in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday night at the Hagersville arena.
The Shamrocks trailed 3-0 at the end of the first period, but reduced the gap to a single goal by the three-minute mark of the second period. However, Hagersville scored later in the period to lead 4-2 going into the third.
Again Hespeler got the gap down to a goal early in the third, but Hagersville completed the scoring in the match with an empty-netter with 11 seconds to play.
Dylan Beitz, Troy Moffitt and Gavin Logher each had a goal for Hespeler while assists were awarded to Matthew Diebolt, Logher and Matthew Tonner.
Tycie Cowan scored twice for Hagersville and Harrison Larochelle, Jayden Lammel and Matt Weston added single goals. Larochelle and Lammel each collected two assists while Alex Milanovich, Weston, Cowan, Peter Cappucci and Sandy Porter each had one.
Hagersville outshot the Shamrocks 34-22 and scored on its lone power play while Hespeler was scoreless on two power plays.
Max Parrot had 29 saves in the Hespeler net while Avery Hartwick made 19 in the Hagersville net.
The Shamrocks are fifth in the Bloomfield Division at 12-15-2-1 while Hagersville is third at 19-7-2-2.
The Shamrocks are to begin a five-game homestand Sunday when they’re to host the Dunnville Mudcats (9-20-1-2) at 3:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
