Shamrocks handed setback by third-place Glanbrook

CAMBRIDGE – Two goals in the first period started the Glanbrook Rangers on their way to a 4-1 victory over the Hespeler Shamrocks in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Sunday at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.

Glanbrook led 2-0 at the end of the opening period before the teams scored once apiece in the second.

Matthew Tonner scored the lone goal for the Shamrocks with help from Kyle Wagner and Brett Hartin.

Matthew Hogan had two goals for Glanbrook while Erik Nelson and Noah Bollert added single goals. Assists went to Sean Golebiowski, Noah Matteson, Harrison Farrugia, Noah Baltzer and Nelson.

Glanbrook outshot the Shamrocks 35-27 and went 1-for-7 on its power play while Hespeler was scoreless on two power plays. The Shamrocks were whistled for 45 of the 73 minutes in penalties called in the game.

Gavin McLeod took the loss in net for Hespeler. He had 31 saves while Matt Lukic had 26 to get the win for Glanbrook.

The loss was the third in a row for the Shamrocks who fall to 3-6-0-0. The losses were to the top three teams in the Bloomfield Division – Grimsby Peach Kings (8-0-0-0), Hagersville Hawks (7-0-1-1) and Glanbrook (6-5-0-0).

The Shamrocks are to host the Port Dover Sailors (2-6-1-1) Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
