Shamrocks lose in Woodstock second night in a row

WOODSTOCK – The Hespeler Shamrocks suffered their second loss to the Woodstock Navy Vets in PJHL play at the Woodstock District Community Centre in as many nights Saturday as Woodstock prevailed 6-2.

Woodstock won 8-3 Friday night.

After a scoreless first period, the hosts outscored the Shamrocks 4-2 in the second period and they added their other two goals in the third.

The second was the only period the Navy Vets had the advantage in shots at 23-10. The Shamrocks outshot Woodstock 37-16 in the other two periods for a 47-39 advantage overall.

Hudson Weger and Thomas Giffin had a goal apiece for the Shamrocks Saturday while assists went to Braeden Tyler and Trent Collins.

Patrick Holloway hit for two goals for Woodstock while Joey Zhang, Jordan Thomson, Tommy Zufelt and Ethan Szabo also scored. Zufelt had two assists while single assists were awarded to Zhang, Jacob McMullen, Lucas Braja and Eric Tuori.

Tyson Gustaw had 33 saves in net for the Shamrocks while Joseph Clark had 45 for the Navy Vets.

Woodstock is fifth in the Doherty Division at 11-9-0-1 while Hespeler is sixth at 2-18-1-1.

The Shamrocks are to play the Tavistock Braves (third at 12-8-0-2) at the Tavistock and District Recreation Centre Friday at 7:30 p.m.
