Shamrocks nipped again, edged by division-leading Grimsby
GRIMSBY – The Hespeler Shamrocks suffered their eighth loss of the season by two goals or less Friday night when they were edged 3-2 by the Bloomfield Division-leading Grimsby Peach Kings at the Peach King arena.
The Shamrocks are eighth in the eight-team division with a 5-13-0-1 record, but have only been outscored by a total of 23 goals. Their 67 goals allowed are the fourth lowest total in the league. However, their 44 goals scored are the lowest total in the league.
Grimsby’s power-play goal with one second to go in the second period proved to be the winning marker as the third period was scoreless. The Peach Kings led 2-1 at the end of the first.
Kyle Wagner and Troy Moffitt scored the goals for Hespeler while assists went to Devin Schneider, Drew Fulton, Brett Hartin and Noah Trudeau.
Bailey Stumpo had a pair of goals for Grimsby while Mason Gibson netted the winning goal. Matt Schouppe collected two assists while Tyler Bush, Gibson and Addison DeTullio each had one.
Hespeler outshot Grimsby 31-26, but was scoreless (0-for-5) on its power play while the Peach Kings went 1-for-4.
Gavin McLeod was tagged with the loss in net for the Shamrocks while Riley Maskell had the win for Grimsby.
Grimsby leads the Bloomfield Division at 16-3-0-0.
The Shamrocks are to host the Niagara RiverHawks (6-10-0-2) Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
