Shamrocks nipped by Grimsby in 2nd game of Bloomfield semifinal
GRIMSBY – The Grimsby Peach Kings edged the Hespeler Shamrocks 2-1 Friday night at the Peach King Arena to grab a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven Provincial Junior Hockey League Bloomfield Division semifinal.
Mike Venditelli scored an unassisted goal midway through the second period for the win for Grimsby.
The Peach Kings had opened the scoring in the game on a goal by Jacob Balca at 11:01 of the first period. Maxime Pleau set up that goal.
Hespeler pulled even just under two minutes later as Devin Schneider scored and Austin Reilly and Brett Hartin drew assists.
The Shamrocks outshot Grimsby 30-29 and neither team managed a power-play goal, Hespeler on five power plays and Grimsby on three.
Gavin MacLeod was tagged with the loss in the Hespeler net. He had 27 saves while Riley Eberhardt had 29 saves for Grimsby.
Game 3 of the series is slated for Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Hespeler Memorial Arena.
