Shamrocks nipped by Hamilton Huskies Junior Blues
CAMBRIDGE – A goal midway through the second period gave the Hamilton Huskies Junior Blues a 2-1 win over the Hespeler Shamrocks in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday night at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
Hamilton had scored the only goal of the opening period, a power-play marker, before Hespeler tied it up early in the second with its own power-play goal.
Hamilton’s Chris Cudek fired home the winner and the only other goal in the game a minute and 15 seconds after the Shamrocks had tied the score.
Kyle Wagner potted the Hespeler goal with help from Devin Schneider and Joseph Tabet.
Brady Bannon scored the first goal for Hamilton while Patrick Vulgan assisted on both goals.
Hamilton outshot Hespeler 44-28 and went 1-for-6 on the power play while the Shamrocks went 1-for-2.
Gavin McLeod had 42 saves for Hespeler while Connor Ogg had 27 saves for Hamilton.
The Junior Blues are tied for third in the Bloomfield Division at 17-14-1-3 while Hespeler is eighth at 5-27-1-1.
The Shamrocks have eight games to go in their regular season including three in four days next week. They’re to play the division-leading Glanbrook Rangers (29-3-0-1) at the Glanbrook arena Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., the Niagara RiverHawks (16-13-0-3) at the Gale Centre in St. Catharines Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and host the Port Dover Sailors (11-18-2-3) Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
