Shamrocks nipped by Wellesley in Game 2 of series

WELLESLEY – The Hespeler Shamrocks yielded a pair of power-play goals as they were edged 2-1 by the Wellesley Applejacks Friday night at the Wellesley Community Centre in Game 2 of their PJHL Doherty Division quarter-final playoff series.

The win gave Wellesley a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven affair.

Wellesley scored single goals in the first and second period while Hespeler had the lone goal of the third.

Jack Restauri scored for Hespeler at 2:08 of the third. Owen Goetz had an assist on the play.

Kyle Baker opened the scoring for Wellesley with three seconds to go in the first period while Adam Hoff added the eventual game-winner at 12:03 of the second. The goal scorers assisted on each other’s goal while Isiah Katsube also had an assist.

The Applejacks outshot the Shamrocks 30-27 and went 2-for-7 on their power play while Hespeler was scoreless on seven power plays.

Tyson Gustaw had 28 saves for Hespeler while Travis Jansen had 26 for Wellesley.

The Applejacks finished the regular season second in the division at 31-7-2-2 while the Shamrocks were seventh at 5-32-3-1.

The Shamrocks are to host Game 3 of the series Sunday at 3:30 p.m. and Game 4 Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. Both games are to be played at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
