Shamrocks nipped in overtime by Glanbrook Rangers
GLANBROOK – The Hespeler Shamrocks surrendered a power-play goal in the opening minute of overtime Wednesday as they were edged 3-2 by the Glanbrook Rangers in Provincial Junior Hockey League play at the Glanbrook arena.
The goal was the second power-play goal of the game for the Rangers who had broken a 1-1 tie with a power-play marker with 5:45 to go in regulation time.
However, the Shamrocks forced the extra time when they tied the score with 3:14 to go in the third period.
The Shamrocks had scored first in the game when they netted a power-play goal 28 seconds into the match after the host Rangers had been assessed a minor penalty for delay of game before the game started.
Kyle Wagner and Dylan Beitz had a goal apiece for the Shamrocks while assists were awarded to Devin Schneider, Austin Reilly, Matthew Diebolt and Wagner.
Noah Matteson, Brennan Ireland and Noah Bollert with the overtime winner scored for Glanbrook. Picking up one assist apiece were Bollert, Dallas Nadasdi, Lyall Shaw, Dan Rocco, Matteson and Erik Nelson.
Glanbrook outshot the Shamrocks 43-39 and went 2-for-6 on their power play while Hespeler was 1-for-9.
Max Parrott was charged with the loss in the Hespeler net. He had 40 saves while winning goaltender Mitchell Robinson of Glanbrook had 37.
Glanbrook is third in the Bloomfield Division at 14-5-0-0 while Hespeler is eighth at 5-12-0-1.
The Shamrocks are to play the division-leading Grimsby Peach Kings (15-3-0-0) at Grimsby’s Peach King arena Friday at 7:30 p.m.
