Shamrocks peppered by division-leading New Hamburg
BADEN – The Hespeler Shamrocks faced 58 shots as they were handed a 5-2 setback by the Doherty Division-leading New Hamburg Firebirds in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Friday night at the Wilmot Recreation Complex.
New Hamburg led 2-1 at the end of the opening period and 4-1 after the second.

New Hamburg outshot the Shamrocks 58-29 including a 42-16 margin in the first two periods.
Tyler MacGillivary and Owen Fischer had a goal apiece for the Shamrocks while Tommy Zufelt, Tony Tikel and Callum Harvey each collected an assist.
Alexandr Potop scored twice for New Hamburg while Zach Mark, Adam Barr and Cole Stannix also scored. Kyle Kraemer, Antonio Pasqualino and Eric Vander Eyk each had two assists while Potop, Riley Benko and Brenden Smith had one each.
Griffin Murphy had 27 saves to get the win in net for New Hamburg while Joseph Clark had 53 saves for Hespeler.
The Shamrocks are fifth in the Doherty Division at 2-6-0-0 while New Hamburg leads at 7-0-1-0 and are followed by the Woodstock Navy Vets at 6-0-2-0, Wellesley Applejacks at 6-2-0-0, Tavistock Braves at 6-3-0-0, Hespeler, Norwich Merchants at 1-7-0-1 and Burford Bulldogs at 0-7-0-1.
The Shamrocks are to host Burford Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
