Shamrocks’ rally falls short, doubled by Wellesley

WELLESLEY – The Wellesley Applejacks scored twice in each period as they doubled the Hespeler Shamrocks 6-3 in PJHL play Saturday night at the Wellesley Community Centre.

The Applejacks scored the final two goals of the game to secure the victory after the Shamrocks had rallied from a four-goal deficit to cut the gap to a single goal.

Wellesley led 2-0 at the end of the first period and 4-1 after the second.

Thomas Giffin scored twice for Hespeler while Riley Broderick had the other goal. Ryan Fraser assisted on all three goals while Riley Panagapka had a pair of assists and Jack Restauri had one assist.

Isiah Katsube collected two goals and two assists for Wellesley while Patrick Klazer had a goal and two assists. The other goals were scored by Kyle Baker, Curtis Butler and Carson Wickie while single assists were awarded to Evan Silveira, Koby Seiling, Tristan Huinink, Wickie, Tristan Romany and Justin McCombs.

Wellesley outshot the Shamrocks 30-19 and went 3-for-6 on the power play while Hespeler went 2-for-7.

Wellesley is second in the Doherty Division at 23-5-2-2 while Hespeler is sixth at 4-25-2-1.

The Shamrocks are to play the seventh-place Paris Mounties (2-25-1-2) at the Brant Sports Complex in Paris next Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and host the fifth-place Woodstock Navy Vets (13-15-0-1) next Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
