
Shamrocks return with setback to Tavistock
TAVISTOCK – The Hespeler Shamrocks were held scoreless after the first period as they were doubled 4-2 by the Tavistock Braves Friday night at the Tavistock and District Recreation Centre in their return to Provincial Junior Hockey League play.
The teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the first period with three of the goals coming in a span of one minute and 40 seconds. Tavistock added another goal in the second period and an empty-netter with 25 seconds to go in the third. Hespeler never led in the game.

Matthew Hayward scored both goals for the Shamrocks while Tony Tikel, Kyle Wagner and Matthew Diebolt each had an assist.
Ian Glendinning, Aidan Lazenby, Luke Fanjoy and Christian Bergmann had a goal apiece for Tavistock while single assists were given to Josh Helgerman, Zach Gladding, Marc Dionne, Carson Gebauer, Patrick Vulgan, Nathan Yeck and Bergmann.
Tavistock outshot the Shamrocks 44-15 and the Braves went 1-for-5 on their power play while Hespeler didn’t score on its lone power play.
Jeffrey Kernichan had the win with 13 saves for Tavistock while Joseph Clark was busy making 41 saves for the Shamrocks.
The game was the first for both teams since Tavistock blanked the Shamrocks 6-0 at Hespeler Jan. 2.
The Shamrocks are to host the Burford Bulldogs Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
