Shamrocks shut down by Peach Kings’ special teams

CAMBRIDGE – The Grimsby Peach Kings scored all their goals on special teams as they blanked the Hespeler Shamrocks 3-0 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Sunday at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.

The Peach Kings, leaders in the Bloomfield Division, had a power-play goal in the first period and added a shorthanded goal and another power-play goal in the second.

Jacob Balca scored two of the goals while Bailey Stumpo had the other one. Stumpo, Anson Davis, Guelph native Lucas Psenicka, Maxim Ljuboja, Jarret Olbruck and Matt Schouppe each had one assist.

Grimsby outshot the Shamrocks 42-33 and went 2-for-7 on its power play while the Shamrocks were scoreless on five power plays.

Riley Eberhardt made 33 saves to get the shutout for Grimsby while Gavin McLeod had 39 saves in the Hespeler net.

Grimsby leads the Bloomfield Division at 25-6-0-3 while Hespeler is fifth at 12-16-2-2.

The game was the second of five consecutive home games for the Shamrocks. They’re to host the Glanbrook Rangers Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Niagara RiverHawks Sunday at 3:30 p.m. and Port Dover Sailors Jan. 15 at 8 p.m.
