Shamrocks shut out by division-leading Firebirds

CAMBRIDGE – The Hespeler Shamrocks suffered a 3-0 loss to the New Hamburg Firebirds in PJHL play Thursday night at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.

The loss was Hespeler’s third this month and sixth consecutive setback.

New Hamburg broke a scoreless tie with a pair of goals 2:47 apart past the midway point of the second period and added its third goal nine minutes into the third.

Jack MacDonald, Lucas Jasmins and Jesse Schill had a goal apiece for New Hamburg while assists went to Jack Nell, Owen Fischer, Antonio Pasqualino and Justin McManus.

New Hamburg outshot the Shamrocks 35-16 and went 1-for-7 on the power play while Hespeler was scoreless on four power plays.

Gavan Mask had 32 saves for the Shamrocks while Blake Richard had 16 for the shutout for the Firebirds.

New Hamburg leads the Doherty Division at 25-4-1-2 while the Shamrocks are sixth at 4-24-1-1.

The Firebirds and Hespeler are to play again Friday in Baden. Game time at the Wilmot Recreation Complex is 7:30 p.m.
