Shamrocks shut out by Grimsby Peach Kings
GRIMSBY – The Hespeler Shamrocks suffered their second consecutive shutout loss Friday when they were blanked 5-0 by the Grimsby Peach Kings at Peach King arena.
Grimsby scored once in the first period and added its other four goals in the third.
The Peach Kings didn’t pad any scoring totals at Hespeler’s expense as only one player picked up more than one point – call-up Mason Gibson who had a goal and an assist. Joel Chauvin, Brady Cranwell, Maxime Pleau and Brennan Smith also had one goal apiece and single assists went to Adam Kozlowski, Michael Tilbury, Jack Bartlett, Jacob Balca, David McKinnon, Ry Beattie, Evan Brown and Maxim Ljuboja.
Grimsby outshot the Shamrocks 38-21 and went 1-for-6 on its power play while Hespeler had four power-plays.
Gavin McLeod had 33 saves in Hespeler’s net while Riley Maskell had the shutout for Grimsby.
Wednesday, the Shamrocks were defeated 8-0 by the division-leading Glanbrook Rangers at Glanbrook.
The Peach Kings are second in the Bloomfield Division at 21-4-1-0 and the Shamrocks are eighth at 4-21-1-1.
The Shamrocks are to host the Niagara RiverHawks (14-12-0-2) Saturday at the Hespeler Memorial Arena. Game time is 8:30 p.m.
