Shamrocks shut out by Hagersville Hawks

HAGERSVILLE – The Hespeler Shamrocks surrendered four goals in the first six minutes of the third period as they were dropped 8-0 by the Hagersville Hawks in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday night at the Hagersville arena.

Hagersville had scored once in the first period and three times in the second before their third-period outburst.

Justin Easter stopped 23 shots for the shutout for Hagersville. Gavin McLeod faced 45 shots in the Hespeler net.

Peter Cappucci and Tycie Cowan scored twice apiece while single goals were added by Patrick Sanelli, Nick Visser, Hayden Smith and Mitch Gauthier. Ralph Taggart, Matt Weston and Riley Pinkney each had two assists while Visser, Brendan Judson, Cowan, Luke Erauw and Sanelli had one apiece.

The Hawks won despite having a lineup of 14 players. Hespeler had 19.

It was the eighth time the Shamrocks were shut out this season and third time by Hagersville. It was also the fourth time they were blanked in seven games.

Hagersville (15-13-2-2) is tied for third in the Bloomfield Division with the Hamilton Huskies Junior Blues (16-14-1-1) while the Shamrocks (5-24-1-1) are eighth.

The two teams are to play again Wednesday at the Hespeler Memorial Arena. Game time is 8 p.m.
