Shamrocks surrender two third-period goals in setback
HESPELER – The Hespeler Shamrocks yielded two goals in each of the second and third periods as they were defeated 4-2 by the Tavistock Braves in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Sunday at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
After a scoreless first period, Tavistock led 2-1 at the end of the second.

Hespeler pulled even midway through the third, but Tavistock struck for a shorthanded goal four minutes later and added an empty-netter with eight seconds to play.
Tommy Zufelt and Tyler MacGillivary scored the goals for the hosts while Brett Hartin, Josh Houston, Andrew Fulton and Gavin Logher each had an assist.
Drew Gerth had two goals for Tavistock while Brock McKenzie and Ryan Donat added single goals. Nathan Yeck collected two assists and single assists went to Reid Ramseyer, Jameson Ritz-Teixeira, Andrew Van Boekel, Owen Rahn, Connor Otto and Patrick Vulgan.
Tavistock outshot the Shamrocks 30-21 and neither team had a power-play goal, Tavistock on three power plays and Hespeler on two.
Joseph Clark had 26 saves in the Hespeler goal while Jeffrey Kernichan had 19 for Tavistock.
The win lifts Tavistock to second place in the Doherty Division with a 10-3-1-0 record while Hespeler is fifth at 5-9-0-0.
The game completed a three-in-three for the Shamrocks and they have another one next weekend as they’re to play the Norwich Merchants (sixth at 3-9-1-1) at the NOR-DEL Arena Friday at 8 p.m. and the Wellesley Applejacks (first at 11-2-1-0) at the Wellesley Community Centre Saturday at 7:45 p.m. and host the New Hamburg Firebirds (fourth at 9-3-1-0) Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
