Shamrocks yield four in third to fall to Norwich
NORWICH – The Hespeler Shamrocks surrendered four goals in the third period as they were edged 6-5 by the Norwich Merchants in Provincial Junior Hockey League play at Norwich’s Nor-Del Arena Friday night.

The Shamrocks led 3-1 at the end of the first period before yielding the lone goal of the second period. They got that one back in the opening minute of the third to restore their two-goal lead, but it only lasted for a minute and a half as Norwich potted two goals in a span of 38 seconds and then went ahead four and a half minutes later.
Hespeler collected a power-play goal to pull even with just under seven minutes to go, but the hosts hit for the game-winner the just less than three and a half minutes to play.
Andrew Fulton had a pair of goals for the Shamrocks while single goals were added by Matthew Hayward, Josh Houston and Callum Harvey. Matthew Diebolt collected two assists while Harvey, Braeden Tyler and Brett Hartin had one apiece.
Jack Gee and Parker Noble scored twice apiece for Norwich while Austin Forsyth and Brady Van Ymeren added single goals. Isaac Borges and Nathan Da Silva each had three apiece and Gee and Forsyth each had one.
Joseph Clark took the loss in the Hespeler net while Norwich’s Austin Strom was the winning goalie.
Hespeler outshot Norwich 33-28 and went 2-for-6 on their power play while Norwich went 2 for 4. The Shamrocks had a shorthanded goal.
The two teams are tied for fourth in the seven-team Doherty Division along with the Tavistock Braves. All have 1-2-0-0 records.
The Shamrocks are to play their third game in five days Sunday when they’re to host the Wellesley Applejacks (2-0-0-0) at the Hespeler Memorial Arena. Game time is 3 p.m.
