Shelburne gets first victory of series with Minto, wins in OT

SHELBURNE – Blake Lovell’s goal after almost seven and a half minutes of overtime lifted the Shelburne Muskies to a 3-2 victory over the Minto 81’s in Western Ontario Athletic Association senior men’s AA playoff action Saturday night at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex.

The result cuts Minto’s lead in the best-of-seven series to 2-1.

Shelburne never trailed in the game as the Muskies scored the lone goal of the first period before the teams scored once each in the second. Adam Kawalec tied it for Minto early in the third.

Kawawlec scored both goals for Minto while Mike Pleon assisted on both. Zach Graham and Wade Pfeffer had one assist apiece.

Jeff Brett and Jamie Bennett scored in regulation time for Shelburne. Chris Greer collected two assists in the game while Matt Taylor, Kolton Maguire and Ty McCallum each had one assist.

The 81’s outshot the Muskies 41-40 and Shelburne was assessed 12 of the game’s 22 minutes in penalties.

Edward Davey was the winning netminder for Shelburne. He had 39 saves while Ben Nelson was tagged with the loss for Minto. He had 37 saves.

The series is to continue with Game 4 Sunday at the Palmerston arena. Game time is 7 p.m.

Game 5 is to go at the Centre Dufferin complex in Shelburne Saturday at 8 p.m.
