Shutout victories push Ross to top of field hockey ladder

GUELPH – The Ross Royals moved to the top of the District 4/10 high school girls’ field hockey standings with a pair of shutout wins Wednesday at Varsity Field.

The Royals blanked the Bishop Macdonell Celtics 3-0 and the Centennial Spartans 2-0.

Emma Elliott, Kennedy Queen and Vanessa Ward scored the goals against Bishop Mac.

Sarah Taylor and Megan Gunn connected for a goal apiece against Centennial.

Acacia Henke-Douglas recorded both shutouts in the Ross net.

Ross leads the eight-team league at 4-0-1 while the Orangeville Bears are second at 3-00 and they’re followed by Bishop Mac at 2-3-1, Guelph CVI Green Gaels at 2-1-0, Centre Dufferin Royals at 1-1-2, Centennial at 1-2-2, Centre Wellington Falcons at 2-3-0 and Wellington Heights Wolverines at 0-5-0.

Ross and Orangeville are to tangle Monday at Varsity Field.

Mara Castellejo had the shutout for Centennial while the name of Bishop Mac’s goalkeeper was unavailable.
