Shutout victories put Ross atop field hockey pool

GUELPH – The Ross Royals scored a trio of shutout victories Wednesday to grab top spot in Pool A of the District 4/10 high school girls’ field hockey league during play at Centennial CVI.

The Royals blanked the Bishop Macdonell Celtics 2-0, Orangeville Bears 1-0 and Centre Wellington Falcons 3-0.

The day was the entire regular-season play for the pool.

The four teams in Pool B (Centennial Spartans, Centre Dufferin Royals, Guelph CVI Green Gaels, Wellington Heights Wolverines) are to play their regular season today at Centennial CVI.

The teams will be seeded for the start of the playoffs Monday at Centennial. First-place finisher in each pool will play the fourth-place finisher in the other pool in the quarter-finals while the second-place finisher in one pool will play the third-place finisher in the other in the other two quarter-final matches.

Quarter-final winners will advance to the semifinals while the quarter-final losers each get a consolation game.

The semifinal victors are to return next Wednesday for a 4 p.m. championship match at Centennial.

Scoring for Orangeville were Anastasia Dimovska and Addison Skrinkle.

Leah Penner scored the goal while Hannah McCaig had the shutout for Ross.

 

Bishop Macdonell 1 Centre Wellington 0

Ponton had the game’s lone goal.

 

Ross 3 Centre Wellington 0

Sidney Wright, Leah Penner and Emma Collier scored for Ross while Avery Sukhdeo and Selena Listman shared the shutout.
