Silvercreeks clobber Hamilton for 13th straight victory

HAMILTON – The Guelph Silvercreeks made it 13 consecutive victories in Intercounty Baseball Association 22U play Saturday as they crushed the Hamilton Junior Cardinals 27-10 at Bernie Arbour Stadium.

The Creeks took control early, scoring eight runs in the first inning and stretching their lead to 16-0 after three innings of play.

Starting pitcher Matthew Cutten gave up a single hit in three innings of work. He had three strikeouts. Hamilton had eight hits in all and committed three errors.

Guelph had 12 hits and made four errors.

Aidan Mendonza led at the plate as he went 4-for-4 and was also walked twice. He scored four runs. Spencer Bertelsen went 2-for-2 with a double and a single, three walks, one run and four RBIs.

Arthur Kowara and Alex Camilo both went 2-for-4. Kowara had a double and a single, two runs and three RBIs while Camilo had two singles, two walks, four runs, two RBIs and a stolen base.

Ryan Kush hit a single, scored four runs, stole two bases and had three RBIs while Jackson Wahl hit a double, scored two runs and drove in three.

The Creeks lead the league at 16-1-1 while the St. Thomas Tomcats are second at 9-4-0. Brantford Junior Red Sox are at 8-7-1, Kitchener Junior Panthers are at 8-7-0 and the Waterloo Tigers are at 6-9-2. They’re followed by the Welland Junior Jackfish at 5-7-2, Stratford Nationals at 3-11-1 and Hamilton at 1-10-1.

The Creeks have three road games left on their league schedule as they’re to play at Brantford Thursday at 8 p.m., at Stratford July 26 at 7:30 p.m. and a game at Welland Aug. 6 that is likely to be rescheduled.

They’re also to play in a tournament at Brampton next weekend and in Baseball Ontario’s elimination tournament in Brantford Aug. 5 to 7.
