
Silvercreeks nip Waterloo Tigers in 22U slugfest
GUELPH – There must’ve been something in the air Friday night at Intercounty baseball games involving Guelph teams.
The Guelph Silvercreeks survived four committing errors as they scored nine runs in the eighth inning and one in the ninth to edge the Waterloo Tigers 16-15 in Intercounty Baseball Association 22U play at Hastings Stadium.

In Intercounty Baseball League play in Brantford, the Guelph Royals outlasted the Brantford Red Sox 14-11.
In the 22U match, both the Creeks and the Tigers connected for 13 hits.
The hosts kept Waterloo scoreless after the sixth inning when the Tigers scored five runs to shoot ahead 15-6, one run short of causing the game to be halted by the 10-run mercy rule an inning later. But Guelph scored three in the bottom of the sixth to move away from the danger zone.
Spencer Bertelsen started for the Creeks and allowed one earned run off four hits in five innings. He had three strikeouts. Reliever Zach Ashworth picked up the win as he kept the Tigers scoreless during his three-inning stint. He had two strikeouts.
Arthur Kowara went 4-for-6 at the plate with a homer, two doubles and a single to drive in four runs. He also scored two runs. Tyler Stoltz hit a double and single for three RBIs, stole a base and scored two runs. Owen Ellis went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs while Eric Blamauer went 2-for-5 with two singles, three RBIs and a run and Aidan Mendonza also went 2-for-5 with two singles, three stolen bases and a run.
The Creeks, who have won nine consecutive league outings, lead the eight-team loop at 12-1-1 while Waterloo is third at 5-6-2.
Guelph is to play second-place Kitchener Junior Panthers (7-2-0) in their next two games. They’re to play at Hastings Stadium Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and at Kitchener’s Jack Couch Park July 5 at 7:30 p.m.
The Junior Panthers have won three in a row since falling 11-6 to the Creeks at Hastings Stadium June 1.
