Six-goal spree helps Mount Forest Patriots clobber Goderich
MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots struck for six consecutive goals on their way to clobbering the Goderich Flyers 8-2 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Friday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
The six-goal streak started at 11:36 of the first period and finished at 13:47 of the third and turned a one-goal advantage into a seven-goal domination.
The Patriots led 4-1 at the end of the first period and scored the only goal of the second.
Jack Birkett had a hat trick for the Patriots while Luke Eurig, Dawson Bolger, William Black, Chet Philips and Hayden Coulter added single goals. Ryley Cribbin assisted on three of the goals while Philips had two assists and Coulter, Troy Weber, Black, Riley Torrie, Derek Williams, Birkett, Dawson Bolger, Matthew Weiler and Nathan Bolger each had one.
Goderich received goals from Jeff Fritzley and Parker Gibbings while Eric Vander Eyk, Nolan Gagnier, Avery Timmermans and Trent Michie had single assists.
The Patriots outshot Goderich 55-32 and went 1-for-2 on their power play while Goderich went 0—for-3.
Mason Kameka had 30 saves to get the win in net for Mount Forest while Jarron Thompson and Spencer Lazarevich split time in the Goderich net — Thompson took the loss. Thompson had 11 saves in the first 13:44 and Lazarevich had 36 saves the rest of the way.
Mount Forest is tied for third in the Pollock Division standings at 3-1-0-0 while the Kincardine Bulldogs are at 3-2-0-0.
Goderich is seventh in the seven-team division as the Flyers have lost all five of their league games.
Third could be decided Saturday at Mount Forest as the Patriots are to host the Bulldogs at 8 p.m.
