Six Guelph squads gain berths in tournament playoffs

GUELPH – Six Guelph-based teams made it through to Sunday’s playoffs in the annual Guelph Ringette Association tournament.

Five of the teams are from the host association’s Predators while the other is the University of Guelph Gryphons.

The Predators reached the final in the U10 class and are to play Caledonia T at 9 a.m. at Centennial arena.

The U12 P Predators gained a berth in the semifinal where they’re to battle Forest at Victoria Road arena at 7 a.m. Winner moves on to the final against Mississauga at West End arena at 11:15 a.m.

The Predators are in the U14 A final at West End arena at 1:15 p.m. They’ll play the winner of the semifinal between Ajax and West Ferris.

The Predators are to play West Ferris in a U19 A semifinal at West End arena at 10 a.m. The winner advances to the 3 p.m. final at the West End arena and will face the winner of the other semifinal between Richmond Hill and Timmins.

The Predators are also in the U19 AA semifinals and they’ll play Cambridge at Victoria Road arena at 9:45 a.m. The other semifinal pits City of Ottawa against Whitby Central. Semifinal winners gain berths in the final at West End arena at 2:30 p.m.

The Gryphs are to take on Laurier in an 18+ University semifinal at Exhibition arena at 9:30 a.m. The winner will battle with the winner of the other semifinal between Carleton and Western in the final at 3 p.m. at Victoria Road arena.

 

U10

The Predators S connected for a 9-2 victory over Hamilton R in their lone Saturday outing. It was Guelph’s third win of the tournament.

Ainslee Sewell had a hat trick while Isabelle Lemelin, Claire Pulleyblank and Lexie Sisco each scored twice. Kali Gonsalves had three assists while Sisco had two and Ffion Anthony, Kirpal Chane, Katie McElwain, Pulleyblank, Sewell and Alexa Whale each had one.

 

U12 R

The Predators K scored a 6-4 win over Barrie B Saturday for their first win of the tournament.

Talyn Vincentini struck for four goals for the Predators while Grace Hendry had a goal and two assists and Isabella Chappel scored the other goal.

 

U12 P

The Predators split their Saturday games as they were handed a 5-0 setback by Forest before they rallied to beat St. Marys 5-3.

Abby Leclerc fired home four goals for the Predators in the win while Maddy Lecompte had the other goal. Mary Duffy-Lazzari was awarded two assists while Avery Black, Alex Boyko, Kate Hales and Lecompte each had one.

 

U14 R

The Predators P downed Dorchester M 8-1 for their first victory of the tournament.

Victoria Saini had a hat trick while Hailey Donais and MacKenzie Hood contributed two goals apiece and Hannah Kleist chipped in with a goal. Hood assisted on three of the goals while Emily Stanley had two assists and Rhiannon Anthony, Kleist, Claire Laurence and Saini each had one.

 

U14 A

The Predators registered a pair of ties Saturday to claim a first-place finish in the division.

The locals tied Timmins 1-1 and Ajax 3-3.

Ava Fries scored in the second period against Timmins with help from Rachel Hancock and Mavis Carberry.

The Predators rallied for the tie with Ajax as they scored twice in the final eight and a half minutes. Fries had two goals in the game and Marin Storey netted the other one. Holly Emeny picked up two assists and Olivia Chappel, Hancock and Alyssa Lederman had one apiece.

 

U16 R

The Elora-Fergus Edge S suffered a 5-1 loss to Caledonia V to complete their tournament with a tie and two losses.

Amelia Farrow scored the goal for the Edge while Charlie Netchay had an assist.

 

U16 AA

The Predators completed their tournament with a tie and a loss Saturday. They lost 5-1 to Waterloo before tying Nova Scotia 4-4.

Rosie McDougall scored against Waterloo while Samantha Tracey assisted on the goal.

The Predators scored three times in the second period including the final one with 1:04 to go to tie Nova Scotia. Abby Auger and Mackenzie Kovats scored twice apiece for Guelph while McDougall had two assists and Rylie MacInnis, Sarah Storey and Tracey had one each.

 

U19 A

The Predators had a pair of wins Saturday to gain their berth in the playoffs. The locals defeated Ajax 5-1 and Richmond Hill W 2-1.

Louana Meloche had a hat trick against Ajax while Laina Carberry had a goal and an assist and Jazmine Weber scored the other goal. Mackenzie Kuntz picked up three assists and Bailey Zulkosky had one.

The Predators scored twice in the first period to get the win over Richmond Hill. Anna McDougall and Kuntz scored the goals while Carberry assisted on both of them and Meloche had one assist.

 

U19 AA

The Predators split their games Saturday as they outlasted Rive Sud 9-6 and were edged 6-5 by Whitby Central.

Lydia Duncan had three goals and three assists against Rive Sud while Emily Power and Claire Wyville struck for two goals apiece and Bronte Bilton and Danielle McIntosh also scored. Sidney Claerbout, Lauren Eccles, Jada Laliberte and Kaitlyn Sharp each had two assists while Lauren Bilton, Hilary Davidson, Abby Hahn, McIntosh, Julia Mezenberg, Olivia Verbit and Wyville had one each.

Laliberte and Power each had two goals against Whitby Central while Mezenberg added the other goal. Bronte Bilton and Power collected two assists apiece and Lauren Bilton, Duncan, Paige Miller and Sharp had one apiece.

 

18+ B

The Predators were handed a 9-2 setback by Toronto Open.

Lara Bisbee and Sarah Pezzano scored the goals for Guelph while assists went to Nichelle Grant, Kyla Huck and Meghan Purdie.

The Predators will play Sunday, but it will be just to finish off their round-robin schedule against Exeter-Seaforth at the Gryphon Centre at noon.

 

18+ University

The Guelph Gryphons advanced to Sunday’s semifinals after posting a tie and a loss Saturday.

The Gryphs tied Carleton 2-2 and lost 6-3 to Western Mustangs.

The U of G scored twice in the first period in the tie with Carleton. Haleigh Cole and Carly Stephens scored the goals while assists went to Katelyn Desgagne and Gillian Marrow.

Tara Jensen hit for a pair of goals against Western and Lauren Cole scored the other goal. Getting one assist each were Maggie Kiernan, Brittney Littlefield and Marrow.
