
Slow start leads to Elora Mohawks’ first loss of season
ELORA – The Elora Mohawks fell too far behind to recover Sunday night at the Elora Community Centre as they suffered their first loss of the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League season.
The Windsor Clippers scored three times in the first six and a half minutes of the game on their way to a 10-8 victory.

The Clippers also scored twice in the final two minutes of the first to lead 5-1 at the end of the period. The Mohawks narrowed the gap to 8-6 by the end of the second before the teams netted two goals apiece in the third. The score remained 9-8 for Windsor from Sam Dramnitzke’s goal for the hosts at 6:53 of the third until the Clippers added an empty-net goal with 10 seconds to go.
Nick Aitchison had four goals for the Mohawks while Dramnitzke scored twice and Ethen Wellings and Mark McIntosh added single goals. Wellings, Aitchison, Tobias Wilson and Brett Harrison each had two assists while Dramnitzke, Jabe Verbeek, McIntosh, Owen Williams, Jake Bauman and Matt Allen each had one.
Zac Dalpe had four goals and two assists for Windsor while Nathan DeThomasis had three goals, Max Frattaroli had a goal and four assists and both Malikye Good and Jack Bulmer had a goal and three assists.
The Mohawks outshot the Clippers 63-55 and went 2-for-7 on their power play while Windsor was scoreless on two power plays.
Nathan Whitton was tagged with the loss in net for Elora as he had 45 saves while Windsor’s Chase Cosgrove, who had two assists, stopped 55 shots to get the win.
Elora leads the Western Conference at 10-1-0 while Windsor is fourth at 6-2-0.
The loss by Elora means no Western Conference team is unbeaten. However, there are two unbeaten teams in the Eastern Conference – the Nepean Knights at 9-0-0 and Orangeville Northmen at 7-0-0.
The Mohawks have a pair of games this week as they’re to play the London Blue Devils (0-9-0) in London Friday at 8 p.m. and host the Hamilton Bengals (7-2-0) Sunday at 7 p.m.
