Slow-starting Gryphon hoops men left behind by Windsor
WINDSOR – The Guelph Gryphons fell behind early and never recovered as their two-game OUA men’s basketball winning streak came to an end Wednesday with a 98-77 loss to the Windsor Lancers at Windsor’s St. Denis Centre.
The Gryphs never led in the game as Windsor struck for the first 10 points of the game on its way to a 29-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lancers were ahead 59-37 at halftime while the second half was an evenly-contested affair. Windsor led 80-59 at the end of the third quarter.
Malcolm Glanville had 23 points for the Gryphs while Trevor Hutton netted 13 and Rasheed Weekes had 10. Weekes also hauled down nine rebounds while Kieran Naus had two assists and Keenan Dowell had two steals.
Shakael Pryce collected 25 points for Windsor while Thomas Kennedy had 24 and Telloy Simon had 14. Kennedy also latched onto 14 rebounds and had three steals while Justace Byam had two blocks.
The Gryphs are fourth in the West Division at 3-6 while Windsor is second at 6-5.
The Gryphs are to host the division-leading Western Mustangs (9-2) Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Guelph Gryphons Athletic Centre.
