Slow third quarter does in Gryphon basketball men
LONDON – The third quarter was the downfall for the Guelph Gryphons as they were downed 94-73 by the Western Mustangs in OUA men’s basketball play Wednesday at Western’s Alumni Hall.
The Gryphs were outscored by 19 points in the third quarter. The teams had been tied 28-28 after the first quarter and trailed 47-46 at halftime. However, the host Mustangs ran to a 78-58 by the end of the third quarter.
Malcolm Glanville led the Gryphs with 20 points while Keenan Dowell had 18 and Rasheed Weekes netted 13. Weekes had seven rebounds while Dowell had four assists and the Gryphs had four steals as a team.
Western had six players hit double digits in scoring including all five starters. Eriq Jenkins had 27 points and was followed by Ukasha Khan with 14 off the bench. Julian Walker and Nikola Farkic had 13 apiece while Omar Shiddo added 12 and Aaron Tennant had 10. Walker hauled down 10 rebounds while Farkic had 10 assists and Tyler Thomson had three steals.
Western shot 54 per cent from the floor including 46 per cent from beyond the arc. The Gryphs shot 41 per cent from the floor and 29 per cent on three-pointers.
The result leaves the Gryphs at 6-9 and Western at 13-4.
