Spartans, Bears top their senior boys’ soccer pools

GUELPH – Centennial Spartans and Orangeville Bears finished atop their pools at the completion of Thursday’s single-day District 10 high school senior boys’ soccer league’s regular season.

The teams in the league were divided into a pair of four-team pools for round-robin play at Centennial CVI and College Heights Secondary School.

That meant each team got three games for what amounted to seeding for the start of the playoffs next week.

First place in each pool is to play the fourth-place finisher in the quarter-finals while the second- and third-place finishers are to tangle in the other opening-round matches.

Centennial finished atop Pool A with three consecutive wins. The Spartans were followed by the Bishop Macdonell Celtics at 2-1-0, Lourdes Crusaders at 1-2-0 and Centre Wellington Falcons at 0-3-0.

Orangeville topped Pool B at 2-0-1 while the Ross Royals were at 2-1-0, Guelph CVI Green Gaels were at 1-2-0 and the St. James Lions were at 0-2-1.

The playoffs are to start next Thursday at Centennial CVI and College Heights. All teams are to get two games that day as the quarter-final winners are to advance to the championship semifinals and the quarter-final losers are to get consolation games.

Semifinal winners are to meet to decide the D10 title Oct. 19 at Centennial.
