Spartans finish girls’ soccer regular season undefeated

GUELPH – The Centennial Spartans completed their undefeated run through the District 10 high school girls’ soccer league’s regular season when they blanked the Bishop Macdonell Celtics 7-0 Tuesday on their own field.

The win was the seventh in as many outings for the Spartans and they proved to be the highest-scoring team in the regular season as well as the stingiest as they outscored their opponents 43-3.

Sam Caputo, Isabelle Beattie and Lisa Kattwasser netted two goals apiece in Tuesday’s win while Sydney Coolman had the other goal.

Ross Royals finished second in the standings at 6-1-0 and were followed by Bishop Mac at 3-2-2, Orangeville Bears at 2-2-3, St. James Lions at 2-3-2, Guelph CVI Green Gaels at 2-4-1, Centre Wellington Falcons at 1-4-2 and Lourdes Crusaders at 0-7-0.

The quarter-finals are to go Thursday at 4 p.m. with Centennial hosting Lourdes, Ross hosting Centre Wellington, Bishop Mac taking on GCVI at the Gryphon Soccer Complex and Orangeville hosting St. James.

Winners advance to Tuesday’s semifinals while the championship match is set for May 26 at 2 p.m. at a site to be determined.

Three of the game’s goals were scored in the final eight minutes of the contest.

Both teams scored a penalty-shot goal during the game while Ross also scored on a free kick.

Mya Chin had a pair of goals for Ross while Emma Mussell scored the other one.

O. Pozzoban and M. Lawson had a goal apiece for St. James. First names were not reported.
