Spartans move to top of D10 baseball loop

GUELPH – The Centennial Spartans stand atop the District 10 high school baseball league standings following a 6-4 edging of the Ross Royals at Pearson Park Thursday.

In that day’s other game, the St. James Lions downed the Guelph CVI Green Gaels 12-1.

Centennial leads at 2-0-0 while Ross and St. James are both at 1-1-0 and GCVI is at 0-2-0.

The short regular season – each team plays three games – is to wrap up Monday with a pair of 3 p.m. games at Pearson Park. Ross is to play GCVI while Centennial and St. James are to clash.

All four teams qualify for the playoffs that are to start with the semifinals June 6. The final is scheduled for June 8 at 3 p.m. at Pearson Park.
