Spartans not out, close match suspended in OFSAA West baseball

MARKHAM – The CWOSSA champion Centennial Spartans and the rest of the teams at the OFSAA West high school baseball championship tournament were in a holding pattern at the end of Wednesday’s play.

Rain forced the suspension of several games in the tournament. Centennial had split its opening two games in the tournament before their third game was suspended after the third inning with fourth-seed Glendale Bears of Hamilton leading 1-0.

The Spartans, seeded ninth in the nine-team tournament, downed eighth-seed St. Charles Cardinals of Sudbury 12-5 in the tournament’s opening game.

That win put Centennial up against top-seed Great Lakes Lakers of Beamsville and they were edged 4-0.

The suspended game is to resume Thursday at 11:30 a.m.
