Spartans post another senior girls’ volleyball sweep

GUELPH – Work in the gym on the days between games has paid off for the Centennial Spartans early in this District 10 high school senior girls’ volleyball season.

“We have been working hard in practice,” Centennial coach Kristie Bradey said after the Spartans remained unbeaten and kept a share of first place in the process as they swept the Centre Wellington Falcons 3-0 Tuesday at Centennial.

The Spartans won 25-14, 25-21, 25-10 for their third sweep in as many league outings this season.

Although they’re undefeated, the Spartans know they’ve got things to work on to keep their perch atop the league.

“We need to be just be more aggressive on our offence and score more points hitting the ball,” Bradey said.

Centennial finished fourth in the standings last season and reached the semifinals before being ousted by the eventual champion Ross Royals.

“Our team is younger than last year,” Bradey said. “We’ve lost a couple of key players that have chosen, because they’re seniors, not to play this year. We’ve got a mix this year.”

Centennial’s tied for first with the Guelph CVI Green Gaels who swept Ross Tuesday for their third win. The Spartans and Gaels are to clash Dec. 19 at GCVI.
