Spartans pull away to keep win streak going in senior hoops

GUELPH – The Centennial Spartans ran to their seventh consecutive District 10 high school senior boys’ basketball win Thursday as they handed the Lourdes Crusaders a 60-50 setback.

It was also the fourth consecutive home game for the Spartans who are tied for first with the Centre Wellington Falcons. Both have 8-1 records. The Falcons won the first league meeting of the season between the two 62-57 at Centennial Nov. 29. They were to have played this week at Fergus, but the game was postponed as school buses outside of Guelph were cancelled that day. It’s been rescheduled for Wednesday at 3:45 p.m.

A big third quarter Thursday sparked the Spartans. They led 16-14 at the end of the first quarter, 26-20 at halftime and 48-32 at the end of the third quarter.

Jake Warywoda led Centennial with 15 points while Hadi El-Miari and Cameron Powell had 11 apiece, Kai Clarke had 10 and Davin Ramdath added seven.

Will Vandenheuvel hit for 12 for Lourdes while Jack St. Hilaire added 10 and Sebastien Porcellato contributed seven.

 

Ross 73 Orangeville 48

Cole Miller’s 19 points led Ross while Gray Yates netted 10.

Rowan Steele had a game-high 22 for Orangeville and Kris Manzerolle followed with 10.

 

Centre Wellington 80 Bishop Macdonell 35

Centre Wellington won for the eighth consecutive time. Brock Newton struck for 25 points for the Falcons and Keenen Lochert had 16.

Matt MacEachern had 13 for Bishop Mac and Adam Cunningham chipped in with nine.

 

Junior

Centre Wellington 38 Bishop Macdonell 34

Owen Fox had 15 points to help Centre Wellington to its first win of the season.

Nathan Perry had 12 for Bishop Mac.

 

Ross 74 Orangeville 55

Gatlang Deng connected for 20 points for Ross while Daniel Wang had 14.

Cole Purdell-Lewis had 13 for Orangeville and Landon Montague collected 11.

 

Centennial 54 Lourdes 20

Details not reported.

Centennial remained unbeaten with the win.
