Spartans, Royals post wins in D10 baseball openers

GUELPH – The District 10 high school baseball league opened its shortened regular season Tuesday with a pair of games at Pearson Park.

The Centennial Spartans dropped the Guelph CVI Green Gaels 11-1 while the Ross Royals rallied to beat the St. James Lions 4-1.

All four teams had played a preseason match last Wednesday. That day Ross dropped GCVI 15-2 and St. James blanked Centennial 10-0.

The league is operating with four teams this season with each team getting a three-game regular season.

The other league games are set for Thursday and Monday at Pearson Park.

Semifinals are set for June 6 at Pearson Park with the first-place team hosting the fourth-place team in one and the second-place team hosting the third-place team in the other.

Semifinal winners advance to the championship match slated for June 8 at 3 p.m. at Pearson Park.
