
Spartans start boys’ hockey season with win
GUELPH – The Centennial Spartans opened their District 4/10 high school boys’ hockey season Tuesday with a 5-1 victory over the Orangeville Bears at Centennial arena.
The Spartans led 2-0 at the end of the first period and 3-1 after the second.
Noah Milne struck for a hat trick for Centennial while Mason Grimwood had a goal and an assist and Nathan Briggs also scored. Matthew Stam had a pair of assists while single assists were awarded to Nathan Fenske, Kyle Assman, Tyler Chadwick and Ryan Johnston.
Jackson Shabut scored for Orangeville with 2:43 to go in the second period. Assists went to Owen Hambly and Jack Priu.
Goalies were Tareq Hasan for the Spartans and Lincoln Geci for the Bears.
Ross 4 Norwell 4
The Ross Royals and Norwell Varsity Reds battled to the standoff at the Palmerston arena.
Liam Thompson connected for three goals for Ross while Luke Vandam added the other goal.
Norwell received goals from Jake Roth, Reed McBeth, Ethan McCarey and Jared Binkley.
