GUELPH – Two members of the Speed River Track and Field Club have been named to the Canadian team that is to compete at next month’s 2018 world under-20 track and field championships in Tampere, Finland.

Ashlan Best is to compete in the women’s 200 metres and 400 metres.

Kendra Leger is to compete in the women’s 100-metre hurdles.

Best, a Guelph native, is in her freshman season at Stanford University and she was named second-team All-America as a member of the school’s 4×400-metre relay team that finished 13th at the NCAA championships. She was also a member of the school’s sprint medley relay team that won at the national relay championships with the third-best collegiate time ever. She has personal best times of 23.27 seconds in the 200m and 53.27 in the 400m.

Leger, from Welland, helped the Guelph Gryphons win the national university U Sports women’s team title with a silver medal in the women’s 60m hurdles in March.

The world U20 championships are to be held July 10 to 15.
