Speed River’s Roxborough national champion

OTTAWA – Shyvon Roxborough gave Guelph’s Speed River Track and Field Club another national champion Friday when she won the junior women’s 100 metres at the Canadian Track and Field Championships at the Terry Fox Athletic Facility.

Roxborough won in 11.68 seconds while Deondra Green of Pierrefonds, Que., was second at 11.81 and Eunice Boateng of Scarborough third at 11.82.

Guelph native Katie Flemington was sixth in the senior women’s long jump with a best leap of 5.79 metres. Christabel Nettey of Surrey, B.C., won with a jump of 6.23 metres.

Joerg Ahne of the Speed River club placed seventh in the senior men’s long jump with his best leap of 7.07 metres. Damian Warner of London won at 7.53 metres.

Former Guelph Gryphon thrower Jared Skeath was seventh in the senior men’s discus. His best throw was 47.46 metres. Jordan Young of Windsor, a teammate on Toronto’s SISU Throws Club, won with a throw of 62.76 metres.

The championships continue this weekend.
