Guelph United L2 Men slip by Hamilton United

A second-half goal for the hosts lifted Guelph United to a 1-0 victory over Hamilton United in League1 Ontario L2 Men’s play Wednesday at Eastview Park.

Jordan Rioux scored the goal in the 53rd minute while Anthony Arruda picked up the clean sheet.

 

Guelph Royals OSL Provincial Elites tie one on with Hrvat St. Catharines

The Guelph Royals and Hrvat St. Catharines battled to a 2-2 standoff in Ontario Soccer League Provincial Elite play Wednesday at Southward Park in St. Catharines.

Matt Nightingale and Ty Douglas had a goal apiece for the locals while Sharrif Musah and Sandro Rajkovic responded for St. Catharines.

The result leaves the Royals at 2-2-1 (W-L-T) and St. Catharines at 1-1-2.

The Royals are to play the league-leading Woodbridge Strikers (4-2-1) July 5 at 9 p.m. at Vaughan Grove Park.

 

FEDS United U21s downed by Stratford Strikers

FEDS United was handed a 3-1 setback by the Stratford Strikers in Southwest District Soccer League U21 men’s play Thursday at Stratford’s Festival Hydro Park.

Jacob Neufeld scored the goal for FEDS.

Owen Holloway had two goals for Stratford while Ethan Barel also scored.

The result leaves FEDS at 0-6-1 (W-L-T) and Stratford at 3-2-2.

FEDS are to host Walkerton FC (3-0-3) at Victoria Park in Fergus July 4 at 9 p.m.

 

Guelph United L2 Women search for first win

The first win of the League1 Ontario League 2 Women’s play remains elusive for Guelph United.

North Mississauga SC scored late in the second half for a 1-0 victory in league play Thursday at Mississauga’s Mattamy Sports Park.

Tamara Lisser scored the lone goal of the game with 11 minutes to go in regulation time.

United is 0-9-0 (W-L-T) in L2 Women’s Southwest play while North Mississauga is 4-4-0 in Northeast play.

Guelph United is to play Hamilton United (4-2-1) Wednesday at 9 p.m. at Eastview Park.

 

Guelph Royals stung by Fort Erie in OSL Regional West play

The Guelph Royals suffered a 6-4 loss to the Fort Erie Sting in a high-scoring Ontario Soccer League Regional West match Thursday at Centennial Bowl.

Brett King, Bryce Start, Luke Ainsworth and Lucio Campora had a goal apiece for the locals.

William Mitchell and Liam Wilson scored twice each for Fort Erie while single goals were added by Caleb Fretz and Santiago Restrepo.

The game also saw yellow cards displayed several times – six times to Guelph players and four times to Fort Erie players.

The Royals are 2-4-0 (W-L-T) in league play while Fort Erie is 5-1-0.

Next up for the Royals is a July 7 game at 4 p.m. against Olimpia Toronto II (1-4-2) at Brickyard Park in Mississauga.

 

Rockwood FC knot AIFC in OWSL U21 play

Rockwood FC and AIFC battled to a 1-1 standoff in Ontario Women’s Soccer League South West Region U21 play Thursday at The Hill Academy in Caledon.

Elivia Garbuio scored for Rockwood while Azaria Fagan had the goal for AIFC.

AIFC leads the six-team league at 4-0-2 (W-L-T) while Rockwood is second at 4-1-1.

Rockwood is to play the Guelph Junior Gryphons (1-6-2) at the Gryphon Soccer Complex Wednesday at 9 p.m.

Guelph Redcoats women split OWL matches with Scarborough

The Guelph Redcoats won one and lost one in Ontario Women’s League rugby play at Scarborough’s Stephen Leacock CI Thursday.

The Redcoats remained unbeaten in Firsts play with a 48-21 victory while Scarborough took the Seconds match 46-7.

Guelph has scored at least 40 points each time out in winning all seven of their OWL Firsts matches. They scored eight tries to three for Scarborough who fell to 3-3-1.

The Redcoats had a single try to eight for Scarborough in the Seconds match. The result left both teams with 4-3-0 records.

The Redcoats are to host the Toronto Nomads in both leagues July 6 at Guelph Lake Sports Fields.

The Nomads are 4-3-0 in Firsts play and 2-5-0 in Seconds play.

The Seconds game is to start the doubleheader at 11 a.m. while the Firsts squads are to begin battle at 12:30 p.m.

 

Guelph Redcoats men drop Fergus Highland in NRU play

Guelph Redcoats downed Fergus Highland 76-12 in Niagara Rugby Union men’s A league play Thursday at Victoria Park in Fergus.

The match is to be the lone contest between the two teams in regular-season play this year.

The Redcoats connected for 12 tries in the match while Highland scored two.

Guelph leads the nine-team league at 5-1-0 (W-L-T) while Highland is sixth at 2-4-0.

Both teams are to face the Norfolk Harvesters (5-0-0) at Waterford District High School in their next league outing.

Highland and Norfolk are to play July 6 at 2 p.m. while the Redcoats and Norfolk are to play July 13 at 3:30 p.m.
