Guelph Gryphons down Toronto Mets in exhibition match

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons dropped the Toronto Mets of the Canadian Premier Baseball League in exhibition play Wednesday night at Pearson Park.

The Gryphs are 8-2 overall and 5-2 in OUA league play.

The Gryphs are to play a pair of doubleheaders this weekend as they’re to take on the Brock Badgers in non-conference play Saturday at St. Catharines and the McMaster Marauders in league play Sunday at Hamilton’s Carstar Bernie Arbour Stadium.

First game in both doubleheaders is to start at 12 p.m.



Gryphons drop another one in KDSL Premier Division play

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons completed their Kitchener and District Soccer League Premier Division play Wednesday night at Centennial Bowl with a 3-0 loss to Polish Eagles Kitchener SC.

The Gryphons will finish ninth in the nine-team division. They’re at 0-15-0 with one away game that went unreported.



Goalkeeper Landon Kells picked in NLL draft

PHILADELPHIA – Goaltender Landon Kells of Fergus was selected in the third round of Tuesday’s National Lacrosse League entry draft.

Kells was selected 46th overall by the Calgary Roughnecks.

He helped the Elora Mohawks win the Canadian junior B championship in 2018 and played in every game this summer for the Peterborough Lakers in Ontario Junior A Lacrosse League play. In 20 games with the Lakers, Kells had a 6-14-0 record, 8.59 goals-against average and .658 save percentage. He had been 8-3-0 with 5.03 GAA and .874 save percentage with the Mohawks in the 2018 regular season.
