St. James hands Centennial first loss in senior hoops

GUELPH – The St. James Lions climbed into sole possession of second in the District 10 high school senior girls’ basketball league standings as they became the first team to beat the Centennial Spartans in league play Wednesday.

The Lions claimed a 54-38 victory to move to 5-2 while the Spartans remain on top of the standings at 6-1.

The Orangeville Bears and Bishop Macdonell Celtics are tied for third at 4-2 while the Ross Royals are fifth at 2-4, Centre Wellington Falcons are sixth at 1-5 and Guelph CVI Green Gaels are seventh at 0-6.

Olivia Brown had 13 points for the Lions Wednesday while Grace Mencfeld added 11.

Sarah Cobey netted 20 for Centennial and Jessica Zhu collected 14.

Josie Morgan had 10 points for Centennial.

Eva Wenger contributed 16 for St. James.

 

Ross 53 Orangeville 34

Bronwyn Sweeney struck for 28 points for Ross while Mauren Mau chipped in with 12.

Williamson had 17 for Orangeville.
