St. James secures first place in girls’ soccer
GUELPH – The St. James Lions clinched a first-place finish in the District 10 high school girls’ soccer league standings by edging the Lourdes Crusaders 4-3 Thursday.
Linnea Ramirez and Taite Sinkeldam scored twice apiece for the Lions.
Paula Weister, Claire Hasson and Hathyna Nguyen responded with single goals for Lourdes.
St. James stands at 5-0-1 with one game to go in the regular season and they’re followed by the Ross Royals at 3-1-2, Bishop Macdonell Celtics and Orangeville Scarlet Bears both at 2-2-2, Centre Wellington Falcons at 2-2-1, Guelph CVI Green Gaels at 1-1-3, Lourdes at 1-4-1 and Centennial Spartans at 0-4-2.
Centre Wellington and GCVI are battle Friday afternoon at Fergus and the league’s regular season is to wrap up Tuesday.
Orangeville 2 Centennial 1
Alicia Bowering and Maeva Baldasarra scored for Orangeville.
Lia Reynolds had the goal for Centennial.
