Steelheads reel in win from Guelph Storm

MISSISSAUGA – The Guelph Storm yielded a pair of goals just over a minute and a half apart early in the third period as they were downed 4-1 by the Mississauga Steelheads in Ontario Hockey League play Wednesday at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre.

Mississauga had scored the first two goals of the game before rookie Daniil Chayka scored for the Storm with just less than five minutes to go in the second period. Tag Bertuzzi and Mason Primeau assisted on the goal.

The Steelheads scored the only goal of the first period and led 2-1 after the second.

Michael Little, Owen Tippett, Cole Carter and Alan Lyszczarczyk scored once each for Mississauga. Richard Whittaker collected two assists while single assists were awarded to Filip Reisnecker, Thomas Harley, Nicholas Canade, James Hardie and Jake Cella.

Mississauga outshot the Storm 45-33 and went 1-for-6 on its power play while the Storm was scoreless on two power plays.

The Storm won 37 of the game’s 57 faceoffs.

Anthony Popovich had 41 saves in the Guelph net while Jacob Ingham had 32 saves for Mississauga.

The Storm is second in the Midwest Division at 10-5-3-2 while the London Knights lead at 12-4-2-0. Mississauga leads the Central Division at 12-6-2-0.

The Storm is to host the Flint Firebirds (2-17-1-0) Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Sleeman Centre and London Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
