
Stingy Thistles leave Wild behind in 1st half of game
FERGUS – The Fergus Thistles kept the Wilmot Wild scoreless for more than half their Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League game Friday night at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.
By the time the Wild scored their first goal at 10:33 of the second period, the Thistles were long gone on their way to a 16-5 victory as they’d fired in nine goals of their own.

The Thistles led 4-0 at the end of the first period and 11-3 after the second.
Keegan Detweiler, J.J. Swanston and Brock Reinhart each recorded hat tricks for Fergus while single goals were netted by Carter Coffey, Curtis Dietrich, Jon-James Lavigne, Kaiden Patterson, Spencer Aitchison, Zack Ranahan and Aiden McDougall. Detweiler had seven assists while Coffey had four, Swanston had three, Reinhart, Dietrich, Lavigne and Patterson each had two and Brodie Rice, Aiden Cormack, Owen Tovell and Cole Doherty had one apiece.
Detweiler leads the league in both points (62) and goals (38) while teammate Swanston leads the league in assists (41) and is second in points (51).
Travis Riebot netted a pair of goals for Wilmot while Klay O’Keefe, Chase Forsythe and Landon Krysko each had one.
The Thistles outshot Wilmot 51-39 and went 4-for-8 on their power play while the Wild was scoreless on their lone power play.
Tyson Reeves had 34 saves for the win in net for the hosts while Aidan Kelly had 35 saves for Wilmot.
The Thistles (11-2-0) are tied with the Orangeville Northmen (11-1-0) for first in the West Division although Orangeville has a game in hand. Wilmot is third at 8-6-0.
The win was the fourth in a row for the Thistles who have five games to go in their regular season.
The Thistles are to host the Brantford Warriors (7-5-0) Sunday at 8 p.m. at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.
