Storm clip Erie Otters on shootout goal by Hillis
ERIE – A goal by Cam Hillis in a shootout lifted the Guelph Storm to a 4-3 victory over the Erie Otters Wednesday afternoon at the Erie Insurance Arena.
Hillis was Guelph’s fourth shooter in the shootout. Pavel Gogolev had scored earlier in the shootout for the Storm while Chad Yetman had scored for Erie.
The game was close throughout with each team taking turns in the lead, but never by more than a goal. The teams scored twice apiece in the first period and once each in the second before a scoreless third period and a scoreless overtime.
Cedric Ralph, Ty Collins and Andrei Bakanov scored for the Storm in regulation time while Hillis had two assists and Daniil Chayka, Gogolev and Cedric Ralph each had one assist.
Daniel D’Amato, Yetman and Jack Duff connected in regulation time for Erie while assists went to Jamie Drysdale, Brendan Sellan, Austen Swankler, Maxim Golod, Brendan Hoffmann and Noah Sedore.
The Otters outshot the Storm 48-31, but only 14-13 after the second period. The Storm went 1-for-3 on their power play while Erie was 1-for-4.
Nico Daws had 45 saves to get the win in the Guelph net while Aidan Campbell had 28 saves for Erie.
The win leaves the Storm at 4-4-1-2, good for 11 points and fourth in the Midwest Division and eighth in the Western Conference. Erie is 6-5-0-2, tied for second in the Midwest Division and fourth in the Western Conference.
The Storm are to host the North Bay Battalion (3-9-0-0) Friday at 7:30 p.m. and the Mississauga IceDogs (4-6-0-0) Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Sleeman Centre.
