Storm deals for defenceman Fedor Gordeev, too

GUELPH – The Guelph Storm kept on dealing Saturday as they acquired defenceman Fedor Gordeev from the Flint Firebirds for four draft picks, two of them conditional.

The Storm sent two second-round picks – the 2021 pick of the Mississauga Steelheads and the Storm’s 2024 pick – and conditional third- and fifth-round picks in 2022 (Sudbury Wolves’ third-round pick and the Storm’s fifth-round pick) to Flint.

Like right winger MacKenzie Entwistle and defenceman Markus Phillips acquired earlier Saturday from the Hamilton Bulldogs and Owen Sound Attack respectively, Gordeev is in his fourth season in the Ontario Hockey League. He had three goals, 16 assists and 49 penalty minutes in 32 games with the Firebirds this season. In 176 regular-season and playoff games in the league, Gordeev has 15 goals, 46 assists and 204 penalty minutes.

The Toronto native was originally drafted by Hamilton in the third round, 59th overall, of the 2015 OHL draft. He was also selected in the fifth round, 141st overall, of the 2017 NHL draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

All three newcomers are expected to be in the Storm lineup Sunday when they host the North Bay Battalion in a 2 p.m. game at the Sleeman Centre.

The OHL trade deadline is Wednesday at noon for overage players and Thursday at noon for all others.
