Storm deals for defenceman Hanley from Hamilton

GUELPH – The Guelph Storm have obtained overage defenceman Jack Hanley from the defending OHL champion Hamilton Bulldogs for a trio of draft picks.

The Storm acquired the 20-year-old for a second-round pick in the 2019 draft, a fourth-round pick in 2020 and a third-round pick in 2021.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound blueliner from Whitby was selected in the fourth round of the 2014 OHL draft by the Belleville Bulls in their last season before moving to Hamilton.

Hanley had two goals and 12 assists in 63 games in the regular season in the 2017-18 campaign before adding three assists in 21 playoff games. In four seasons with the Belleville/Hamilton franchise, Hanley collected five goals and 39 assists in 234 regular-season games and three assists in 29 playoff games. He was also assessed 69 penalty minutes in the regular season and 15 in the playoffs.

Hanley is expected to be at the Storm’s training camp which is to open Aug. 20.

The Storm’s first of four preseason games is slated for Sept. 1 at the Sleeman Centre against the Peterborough Petes. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

The Storm is to open its regular season against the Windsor Spitfires at Windsor Sept. 20.
