Storm dropped by conference-leading London

LONDON – The Guelph Storm was kept scoreless until the final 61 seconds of the game as they were downed 6-1 by the Western Conference-leading London Knights in Ontario Hockey League play Wednesday at London’s Budweiser Gardens.

London scored twice in the first period and added four more goals in the third before Domenico Commisso scored for the Storm with 1:01 to go. Owen Lalonde assisted on the power-play goal.

Three of London’s third-period goals came in a span of 2:01 late in the period.

Matvey Guskov had a pair of goals for London while Adam Boqvist, Joey Keane, Josh Nelson and Sahil Panwar also scored. Antonio Stranges assisted on three of the goals while Liam Foudy and Nathan Dunkley each had two assists and Evan Bouchard, Connor McMichael, Gerard Keane and Riley Coome had one each.

The Storm outshot London 38-32 and went 1-for-5 on their power play while London was scoreless on two power plays.

Anthony Popovich took the loss in the Guelph net while Joseph Raaymakers had 37 saves for the win in the London net.

London has clinched a playoff berth and lead the conference at 38-9-5-1. The Storm is fourth at 29-15-6-4 with 14 games to go in their regular season. They’re five wins (at the most) away from clinching a playoff berth.

The Storm begins a stretch of three consecutive home games Friday when they play the Kitchener Rangers (25-24-3-1) at 7:30 p.m. They’re also to host the Flint Firebirds (10-42-4-0) Monday at 2 p.m. and the Erie Otters (22-28-2-1) Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m.
