Storm falls to Knights with loss in shootout

GUELPH – The London Knights scored on both of their shots in a shootout to edge the Guelph Storm 2-1 in Ontario Hockey League play Saturday at the Sleeman Centre.

The Storm was scoreless on both of its shootout shots.

After a scoreless first period, Barret Kirwin gave the hosts the lead with the only goal of the second period. Ryan Merkley set up the goal.

Liam Foudy tied it for London with 2:52 left in regulation time. Assists went to Connor McMichael and Nathan Dunkley.

Antonio Stranges and Alex Formenton scored in the shootout for London.

Anthony Popovich took the shootout loss for the Storm despite making 37 saves.

Jordan Kooy was the winning goalkeeper with 33 saves for London.

Both teams were scoreless on their power plays, London on five and the Storm on six.

London leads the Midwest Division at 14-4-2-0 while the Owen Sound Attack (13-7-1-2) is a point behind in second and the Storm (11-5-3-3) is another point behind in third.

The Storm is to host the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (12-6-3-1) Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Sleeman Centre.
